Enhanced Wide Spread Protection and Webhook Limit Enhancements

Two protections got sharper this week, and one webhook change is on the way for Monday, August 17.

Smarter Wide Spread Protection

Your bots rely on bid/ask quotes to manage trades and trigger stops, and a very wide spread means those quotes can't be trusted. We rebuilt the protection that guards against acting on wide quotes. The old approach had gaps that let some very wide spreads through unchecked, especially on higher-priced options like SPX. The new approach measures spread width against the bid price directly, closely modeled on Cboe's own definition of a wide quote, so it catches wide spreads that used to slip through. Strikes with no bid at all still don't trigger this protection, since there's no market to measure.

The Wide Spread Patience Window, which controls how long a bot waits for quotes to normalize before treating a wide spread as a problem, is now measured in seconds instead of minutes, with new Off and Until Normal Quotes options for finer control. You'll find it under Bot Preferences on your Account Settings page. See Wide Bid-Ask Spread Protection for the full breakdown.

Coming Monday, August 17: Account-Wide Webhook Trade Allocation

Today, each webhook-triggered bot has its own individual limit on how many trades it can hold open at once, even if your plan has unused capacity elsewhere. Starting Monday, August 17, that allowance pools across all of your webhook bots, so open trades can be spread across your webhook bots however makes sense for your strategy, up to what your plan supports overall. This applies to trades opened on or after August 17; nothing changes for trades already open before then.

Review your Wide Spread Patience Window  and check back on webhook allocation after Monday, August 17.
