The Backtick Library, Position Library, and SweepTick

Last updated July 3, 2026

Once you run more than a handful of backtests, organization becomes the feature. The Backtick Library keeps runs findable, the Position Library turns finished runs into raw material, and SweepTick generates whole ranges of variations for you.

The Backtick Library

The Backtick Library, under the Backtick menu, is the home for your completed runs. Star a Backtick to mark it saved so your keepers do not get lost among the experiments, and use tags to slice the list by underlying, structure, or project. The list is split into five tabs: Saved, Unsaved, Archived, All, and Trash. Unsaved runs age out to the Trash on the schedule set in your Backtick User Settings, and trashed runs can still be restored until they are permanently purged; Purge Unsaved Now and Empty Trash run either cleanup on demand. Each row carries actions to View Results, Copy Backtick as the starting point for the next iteration, run a Backtick Quick Rerun against current data, or Trash Results and Edit Backtick to reopen a completed run as an editable draft. All four are covered in Copy, Rerun, and Import Backticks.

The Position Library

The Position Library is a browsing and curation surface over every position inside your completed runs, each shown with its own historical performance numbers. Sort and filter to find the positions that actually earned their keep, inspect their full settings read-only, and select the best ones to seed a combined portfolio test. The full workflow, including position dependencies, lives in Build Portfolio Backtests.

SweepTick: test many variations at once

SweepTick answers the question every backtester eventually asks: what if I nudged this setting? Pick a Core Position, sweep one setting across a range — or two settings at once as a grid — preview every generated variation, and run them as a single job. Setup, iteration methods, and reading the per-iteration results are covered in SweepTick Parameter Sweeps.

Submitting SweepTick runs is a Premium feature. If it is not available on your current plan, see Choose Your Plan.
Sweeps make it easy to find the single best-performing variation in history. Treat that top result with suspicion: picking the peak of a sweep is a classic way to overfit the past. Favor settings that perform well across a broad neighborhood of the sweep.

Portfolio Builder

The Portfolio Builder assembles positions from your Position Library into one combined test, so you can study how strategies behave together rather than in isolation. Diversification effects, overlapping drawdowns, and combined capital usage all show up here before they show up in your account. See Build Portfolio Backtests for the full workflow.

Set your defaults once

Backtick User Settings, under the Backtick menu, holds your Default Backtick Settings: date range defaults, your default commission profile, your Backtick position accounts, and how results display. It also controls the simulation-realism overrides and the unsaved-run retention schedule, covered in Backtick User Settings and Simulation Realism.
