Connect TradeStation

Last updated July 17, 2026

TradeStation works just a little differently than the other brokers: you need a dedicated username for tradeSteward, because TradeStation does not allow simultaneous connections under the same username.

Why you need a secondary username

TradeStation does not allow simultaneous connections under the same username. If you connect tradeSteward and then log into the TradeStation platform (desktop, web, or mobile) under that same username at the same time, TradeStation drops tradeSteward's connection, even if you have open trades. tradeSteward alerts you by notification and email when this happens, and the connection reconnects automatically once the conflict is resolved, but while the conflict lasts your trades are not being monitored.

The good news: TradeStation offers a free secondary username for tradeSteward customers. That gives you:

  • One username dedicated to tradeSteward's automated trading
  • Your other username for TradeStation's own platforms
  • Both connections running at the same time without conflicts

To get one, contact TradeStation support, request a secondary username, and mention you are a tradeSteward customer so the monthly fee is waived. Details and exclusive rates for tradeSteward customers are on TradeStation's tradeSteward page.

Do not connect TradeStation until you have a dedicated username that you will not use on TradeStation's own platforms.
  1. Open Manage Linked Brokers from the account menu (the user icon in the top bar).
  2. Click Add/Update Brokerage Link and choose the TradeStation logo.
  3. Read the Important: TradeStation Secondary Username Required notice and click I Have a Dedicated Username to continue.
  4. Log in with your dedicated TradeStation username in the popup and approve the connection. If no popup appears, allow popups for tradeSteward in your browser.

The notice you will see before linking: continue only once you have a dedicated username.

Then enable the accounts you want to trade in the Manage Linked Accounts table and confirm each shows Link Status Linked and Acct Status OK. The shared steps are covered in Link a Brokerage Account.

Keeping it healthy

Keep the dedicated username out of TradeStation's own apps. If you receive a Simultaneous Login Conflict alert, or your TradeStation connection keeps dropping, a platform login under the linked username is the most common cause: log out of the TradeStation platform and the connection reconnects on its own, then consider moving your own platform use to your other username. For link problems, see Fix a Disconnected Broker.

Why this matters more than it sounds: the conflict interrupts the connection even while trades are open, and until it reconnects your open trades are not being monitored for stops, exits, or profit targets. A dedicated username is not a convenience, it is what keeps your open trades under management while you use TradeStation's own tools.
