Commissions and Fees Report
The Commissions and Fees Report shows what your completed option trades actually cost. Use it to compare brokers, follow costs over time, and see how average cost per contract changes by order symbol.
Open the report
From the Tracking menu, choose Commissions & Fees Report under Account, or go to /trading/commissions.
Choose which trades to include
The report opens with the last 90 days selected. Use any combination of these filters, then choose Run Report:
- Broker: compare one broker or include several.
- Strategy: include one or more strategies, or choose Unassigned for trades that do not have a strategy.
- Account: narrow the report to specific linked accounts. Inactive accounts remain available so you can review historical costs.
- Order symbol: focus the report on one or more underlyings.
- Fill date: set the period covered by every total, chart, and table.
Leave a broker, strategy, account, or symbol filter blank to include every available value in that category.
Which trades and costs are included
The report includes only completed option orders whose brokerage costs have been finalized. Equity trades, futures, assignments, exercises, and orders that mix options with another instrument type are excluded.
Costs stay separated into three categories:
- Brokerage Commissions: the commission charged by the broker.
- Exchange & Other Fees: exchange charges and other broker-reported fees.
- Regulatory Fees: regulatory charges stored with the order.
Read the cost summary
The summary adds brokerage commissions, exchange and other fees, and regulatory fees separately, then combines them into Total costs. Average / contract divides the costs on orders with usable leg quantities by the number of option contracts filled.
For multi-leg orders, every filled execution leg counts toward the contract total. If an older order has no fill details, the report uses quantities from all available order legs. When no usable leg quantity exists, the order's costs remain in the totals but do not affect per-contract averages; the report tells you how many order records were excluded from the averages.
Compare costs over time
The Fee trend chart stacks all three cost categories for each period. The Average cost per contract trend separates the per-contract averages so you can see whether commissions, exchange fees, or regulatory fees caused a change. The report automatically uses daily, weekly, or monthly periods based on the length of the selected date range.
The Average commission per contract by broker chart compares each broker with the weighted overall average. This chart measures brokerage commissions only, so exchange, other, and regulatory fees do not distort the broker's commission rate.
Compare brokers and symbols
Costs by broker shows each broker's total costs split by fee category. Beside it, the Broker breakdown table places brokers in columns and cost metrics in rows, including each broker's blended average cost per contract.
The Average cost per contract by symbol and broker table puts order symbols in rows and brokers in columns. Each cell is the total commissions and fees for that symbol and broker divided by its option contracts. A dash means that broker had no matching contracts for that symbol under the selected filters.
Open the report, choose the brokers and symbols you want to compare, and run it over a representative trading period.
