Corporate Stock Splits and Your Positions

Last updated July 11, 2026

When an underlying you trade splits, tradeSteward automatically re-expresses the affected strikes, quantities, and profit and loss to match your broker, with nothing for you to configure or turn on.

What happens automatically

tradeSteward keeps an internal list of known corporate stock splits. Whenever a position was opened before a split's effective date and is still open, or settled on or after it, tradeSteward re-expresses that position in post-split terms wherever it's shown on your performance reports: the strike divides by the split ratio, the contract quantity multiplies by the same ratio, and per-contract prices adjust to match. There is no setting to enable, no button to click, and no badge or tooltip marking a position as split-adjusted. It just shows correct.

The current example is CRWD's 4:1 split, effective July 2, 2026. A position opened before that date at a $400 strike now shows as a $100 strike carrying 4x the original contract count, matching exactly what you'd see in a CRWD option chain at your broker today.

If a trade you remember opening at one strike and quantity now shows a different strike and quantity on your performance reports, this is almost always a split doing its job, not an error. Check the underlying's split history before assuming something is wrong.

Where you'll see post-split numbers

The re-expression only touches a few specific places:

WhereWhat you see
Bot Performance and Strategy Performance per-trade leg listPost-split strike and quantity for each leg
Bot Trade Timeline "Opened… at $X Credit/Debit" linePost-split quantity and price

Expand any trade on Bot Performance or Strategy Performance and the leg list underneath, quantity, description, and price, reads in today's post-split terms:

An expanded trade row on Bot Performance showing a CRWD leg at its post-split strike and quantity
A pre-split CRWD trade's expanded leg row on Bot Performance, showing the post-split strike and quantity.

The same adjustment carries into the trade's timeline. Open View Trade Timeline from Bot Performance (see Monitor Bot Activity and Open Positions for how to read the rest of the timeline) and the "Opened…" summary line states the post-split quantity and price:

The Trade Timeline's Opened line for a pre-split CRWD trade, stating the post-split quantity and credit or debit
The Trade Timeline's "Opened…" line for the same trade, stated in post-split terms.

Profit and loss is unchanged

A split never changes what a trade actually made or lost, it only redistributes that total across strike and quantity. Collecting $500 on 1 pre-split contract and settling 4 post-split contracts is still the same $500 either way. If a position straddling a split had already booked a wrong dollar figure before tradeSteward's split handling applied to it, that figure has already been corrected once behind the scenes. You won't see an ongoing recalculation or a changing number; the total P/L for a straddling trade is simply correct.

What still shows as filled

The Trade Log is the one place tradeSteward never touches. It's your historical record, so it always shows the real symbol, strike, and quantity exactly as your broker filled it, pre-split terms and all. Legs that were already closed keep the strike they were actually filled at there too. If you want to see today's post-split strikes, use Bot Performance, Strategy Performance, or the trade's timeline; if you want the exact record of what was filled and when, the Trade Log is the source of truth.
