Size Up an Open Trade
Size Up adds contracts to a trade you already have open by launching a brand-new trade at the same strikes, so you can lean into a position that is working without touching the original trade's numbers.
What Size Up does
Size Up is a row-level action on an open trade on the Trading Dashboard. It reads the strikes, expiration, and long/short structure of the trade you clicked from, then opens a brand-new, separately tracked trade on those exact contracts at current market prices. It does not merge into or average against the original trade. You end up with two independent trade records, each with its own entry price, P/L, and exit tracking, that happen to share the same strikes and expiration.
The new trade is managed going forward using the bot's current settings: profit target, stop, and exit rules as configured right now, not whatever the bot was set to when the original trade opened.
Size Up is the mirror image of Reduce Trade Size, the angles-down action next to it on the same row: Reduce Trade Size shrinks the existing trade in place, while Size Up leaves that trade untouched and opens a new one alongside it.
Start a Size Up
Open the Trading Dashboard and find the trade in the Current Bot Positions table (or the mobile Bot Trades list). Size Up only appears on trades that are currently open and structurally eligible: see Eligibility below.
- Desktop: click the angles-up Size Up Trade icon in the row's action column, alongside Close Trade, Edit Bot, Tag Trade, and Reduce Trade Size.
- Mobile: expand the trade's action grid and tap the Size Up tile.
Choose a quantity
Clicking Size Up opens the Size Up Trade modal, which tells you it will add contracts to the trade using the same strikes and strategy. What you see next depends on whether the bot has Set Launch Now/Webhook Size enabled in its settings:
- Preset enabled: you pick Use Bot Settings to size the new trade the same way the bot sizes a Launch Now or webhook trade, or Manual Quantity to type a specific number of contracts instead.
- Preset not enabled: the modal skips straight to a Contracts to Add field, with a callout linking to the bot's edit page so you can turn on Set Launch Now/Webhook Size for next time.
A manual quantity must be a whole number from 1 to 50.
Eligibility and gates
Size Up checks a few things before it lets a trade through, both when it decides whether to show the icon and again when you submit:
- Subscription: Size Up requires an active bots subscription. On an account without one, the modal shows an upgrade prompt to Account Settings instead of the quantity form.
- Market hours: submissions are only accepted during regular trading hours, starting at 9:30:50 AM ET. Outside that window you'll see "Size-up can only be submitted during regular trading hours."
- Trade structure: a trade is only eligible while every leg is unexpired and the spread is still intact. If some legs have closed independently of the others (called "legging out"), or if any leg's option has expired, Size Up is not offered for that trade.
A fully-open trade with all legs intact is always fine to size up. Because eligibility is re-checked at submission time, a trade that becomes ineligible between when you opened the modal and when you click Size Up Trade (for example, if it closed or legged out in the meantime) will report back that it's no longer eligible instead of opening a new trade.
After you submit
Size Up doesn't fire instantly. Submitting queues the request, and you'll see "Size-up queued. Your bot will add to the trade shortly. Good luck!" The bot's engine picks it up on its next cycle and opens the new trade from there, the same as any other engine-driven open.
Once it's open, the new trade carries trigger code S, and its open-trigger icon on the Trading Dashboard switches to the same angles-up glyph, with the tooltip "Size Up (added to an existing trade)." It's the same icon shape as the Size Up action itself, so at a glance you can tell a trade you're looking at was launched by sizing up rather than by its normal entry schedule.
The new trade's own Bot Activity log carries an entry reading "Sized up [order #]", linking back to the original trade it copied its strikes from, so you can trace a sized-up position back to where it started.
