What Are Strategies in tradeSteward?

Last updated July 17, 2026

In tradeSteward, a strategy is a profit and loss grouping that you define. Strategies collect related trades so your reporting stays organized, no matter how many bots or manual trades feed into your account.

Strategies are groupings, not option structures

The word "strategy" gets used two ways in options trading, so it helps to be precise about what it means here. The option structure a bot trades, such as a single leg, vertical spread, or condor, is set by the bot's Trade Template when you build the bot. A tradeSteward strategy is something different: it is a label you create, like "0DTE Iron Condors" or "Weekly Puts", that groups trades together for tracking.

Every trade in your account can carry a strategy assignment. Bots assign their trades automatically based on the bot's Strategy Assignment setting, and you can file manual trades under a strategy yourself. You can create as many strategies as you like; how many can be enabled at the same time depends on your plan.

What strategies do for you

tradeSteward captures every trade in your linked accounts, whether a bot placed it or you did. Strategies are how that firehose becomes readable. Once trades are filed, you can answer questions your broker statement never will: is my morning entry actually better than my afternoon one? Are the wide condors paying for the narrow ones? Each strategy gets its own profit and loss history, drawdown analysis, and trade list in the Strategy Performance report, and strategy totals feed the Strategies page so you can compare approaches at a glance.

A good starting set for a new account is one strategy per distinct approach you trade, for example "0DTE Put Spreads", "Weekly Condors", and "Manual Earnings Trades". Keep names short and specific. You can always split a strategy later, but a handful of well-chosen buckets beats twenty overlapping ones: if every report shows one trade per strategy, the groupings are too fine to tell you anything.

The Strategies page

Open the Tracking menu, then View Strategies under Strategies, in the navigation to see every strategy on your account. Each row shows the Strategy Name, an Enabled toggle, a Description, Last Traded, Trade Count, All-Time Net P/L, YTD Net P/L, and any Auto-Assigned Symbols. The name and description are editable right in the table: click into the field, type, and the change saves when you leave it.

The Strategies table: edit names and descriptions inline, and add a new strategy from the bottom row.

Three action icons finish each row: a chart icon that opens the strategy's performance log, a receipt icon that opens the Trade Log filtered to just that strategy's trades, and a trash icon to delete the strategy. A Hide Disabled Strategies switch at the top keeps the list focused on what you are actively trading.

Enabled and disabled strategies

Disabling a strategy hides it from the Trade Log strategy selection and removes it from the strategy list when editing bots. You can still view the strategy and its performance history. When you disable a strategy that has bots assigned to it, tradeSteward asks whether you want to disable just the strategy or the associated bots as well.

Your subscription level sets how many strategies can be enabled at once. If you hit the limit, you can disable one you no longer trade or upgrade your plan from Account Settings.

Deleting a strategy is permanent

Deleting a strategy resets all of its trades to having no assigned strategy, deletes the strategy's performance and trade matching history, and disables any bots assigned to it. This cannot be undone, so if you simply want a strategy out of the way, disable it instead.

Prefer disabling over deleting: a disabled strategy keeps its full history and can be re-enabled at any time, while deletion unassigns every trade, erases the performance history, and cannot be undone.
