Equity Assignments
The Equity Assignments page collects every detected option assignment in your accounts and lets you resolve the pending ones inline, so your trade records stay accurate.
What an equity assignment is
When a short equity option you sold is assigned, the option disappears and stock takes its place: long or short shares of the underlying land in your brokerage account. tradeSteward detects these events and records each one with the contract count, strike, put or call, the account it happened in, the assignment date, and the resulting share position.
To keep bot performance and your trade history correct, each assignment needs to be matched to the trade it came from. That matching is what this page manages. Open it from the Tracking menu, under Trades, as Equity Assignments, or go to /trading/equity-assigns.
How you're notified
You don't need to check this page on a schedule. tradeSteward surfaces every detected assignment through three channels:
- Trading Dashboard. Whenever any assignment needs attribution, the Trading Dashboard shows a warning callout, "N Equity Assignment(s) Need Attribution →", that links straight to this page. Once nothing is pending but some assignments are still Ignored, that callout is replaced by a quieter "Review Ignored Equity Assignments" link.
- Notification Center. Every detection, whether or not it needs your attention, adds an alert titled "Equity Assignment: {underlying} {Put/Call}" to your Notification Center.
- Email. tradeSteward also emails you, subject "Equity Assignment: {contracts} {underlying} {Put/Call} assigned." Each assignment emails you only once, even if the broker transaction behind it gets re-synced later.
Assignment statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Detected but not yet matched to a trade. These are waiting on you. |
| Attributed | Matched to a bot trade. Read only. |
| Non-Bot | Matched to a trade outside your bots, such as a manual strategy trade. Read only. |
| Ignored | Set aside on purpose. Can be reversed with Un-ignore. |
| Needs review | Automatic recording failed for the assignment; resolve it the same way as a pending one. |
Filter the list
The Filter card narrows the list by Assigned from and to dates, Symbol, Account, and Status. The status filter starts on Pending, since those are the items that need action; switch it to All to see the full history. Clear resets every filter.
Resolve a pending assignment
A pending item asks Which trade was assigned? and lists the candidate trades that held the assigned contract:
- Bot trades show the bot's name and the opening order number, which links to that trade's bot activity logs so you can confirm the details before choosing.
- Non-Bot trades show an order number that opens an Order Details popup with the trade's strategy, open time, quantity, price, and legs.
Select the right candidate and click Attribute to selected. Choosing a non-bot trade records the assignment with a Non-Bot status. If the assignment does not belong in your records at all, click Ignore; an ignored item keeps an Un-ignore button in case you change your mind.
